This year the 4th graders have been learning coding using Code.org's coding program. In February they started learning about angles. Using Probots that we purchased with our steamworks lab the students were able to program the car robots to travel along lines very similar to the lessons they did in code.org. They loved it!
In the picture above the man has to move forward, then rotate left 120 degrees. That means the student has to know the triangle has an angle of 60 then 180-60=120. They have to know the guy needs to turn left 120 degrees. It's hard to look at the screen figure out the character's left and right and calculate the angles to rotate when not starting at a horizontal or vertical position. That's why these robots would allow them to act it out and physically see how the guy (car) moves.
