In Kindergarten we continue to play games on the internet that relate to classroom curriculum. This week we just started learning a new program called Pixie. It's a drawing tool but it has more this year like being able to record your voice and do a slideshow. Look for some printed work in the next month or so and maybe a recording on the teachers' websites.
In First grade we did a fun shapes activity where we had to fill in shapes with shapes! The kids learned about rotating, flipping, and resizing to make them fit. We discovered that there are many ways to find solutions to these problems!
In Second grade we finished our Olympics Book project and printed them out. The children learned how to get photos off the internet, put it on their page, draw pictures to illustrate or decorate, type in text, and learn about the sports in the Olympics. They then did a game where they drew a picture using shapes and then had to describe the picture to a friend to see if they could draw it. They learned shape names, orientation names and how to be a better describer.
In Third grade we finished our Olympics slideshow project. Hopefully they will be posted to the web soon! First we learned how to do research and how to determine what is a good website for good information. Then they learned how to create a multi page slideshow, how to add photos, how to find 2 facts, how to edit and revise their work, and finally publish to a web format. All the 3rd grade classes wrote letters to Veterans. Some will be passed out to the veterans at our Veteran's Day program, some will be given to relatives in the military and others to a special program. There is an organization that is sending WW II vets to D.C. to see the WW II memorial before they die. These letters will be given to the vets on the plane ride there.
